Saline Area Social Service (SASS) is accepting applications May 1-31, 2022 for student representatives to participate as student liaisons/non-voting members of our Board of Directors for a one-year term (June 2022 through June 2023). The application is open to high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors.

The SASS Board of Directors consist of 13 active members of the Saline community who meet on the third Wednesday of every month at 8 a.m. (location varies).  Meetings generally last for one hour.  SASS Youth Representatives are expected to act on behalf of the student population in our community and to bring important issues to the Board of Directors, provide input to various issues and programs that would benefit the teenage population’s perspective and volunteer at events and community activities throughout the year, including our Holiday meals program and Adopt-A-Family program.

In addition to monthly meetings, additional requirements include:

  • Being a student advocate for Saline Area Social Service
  • Helping to identify student needs
  • Demonstrating commitment to at least 2 hours every month, and ideally commitment to volunteering at our annual food drives and client distribution events (approximately 8-10 events throughout the school year)

Saline Area Social Service (SASS) is a non-profit, 501(c)3 organization that services Saline and a portion of the surrounding townships.  We’ve been in the community for over 60 years, and we are the only local resource in our community that provides food and emergency relief to our neighbors who need extra support.  Of our 400+ clients, nearly 40% are children and 20% of the adults we serve are senior citizens. Last year, with the help of the Saline Community, SASS was able to distribute enough food for over 120,000 meals, provide back to school supplies and shoes, boots and snowpants to area youth, and help with emergency assistance, such as eviction, utility shut off and car repairs.

Being a SASS Youth Representative is a hands-on opportunity to learn about diverse populations and needs within our community, develop leadership skills and to participate in the community.

Application Deadline: Tuesday, May 31, 2022. This application is open to high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors.
