In 2020, in close collaboration with the counseling team at the Saline High School, SASS initiated a pilot for a small group of at-risk high school students in need of academic support or counseling to overcome mental health challenges.

“The counseling and social work departments are seeing quite an increase in students who are struggling with anxiety and depression. We recognize that there are families who can’t afford care to help them. Our goal is to work with Saline Social Services to provide funding to support these students to allow them access to the help they need.”
Michelle Monahan, SHS Counselor

Qualified students have one-on-one meetings with licensed master clinical social workers or professional tutors for 12 weeks. So far, participating students have gained confidence, social and emotional skills, independence and improved attendance and grades.

Help a Saline child in need.

38% of SASS clients are children. In addition to food assistance and the programs mentioned above, SASS improves the quality of life for Saline youth by providing winter boots and snow pants, back-to-school items including backpacks, supplies, and shoes, holiday meals and toys, and birthday gift bags. If you feel moved to support our work, help us reach our fundraising goal of $504,000 this year.
