Helping Kids Get Ready for School

As summer draws to a close, Saline Area Social Service (SASS) is gearing up for our annual back-to-school programs, which extend a helping hand to families in need. All of these programs are made possible through the generosity of our community.

School Supplies & Backpacks

A cornerstone of our back-to-school efforts is the distribution of school supplies and backpacks at Liberty School. All the supplies are provided by our generous community and help ensure that every child starts the academic year equipped with the tools they need. A huge note of gratitude goes out to Paul Hynek, Saline Summerfest, Steadfast Chiropractic, and Saline Area Schools for leading an incredible Stuff the Bus event each year to collect supplies throughout the community.

New Shoes

Each year before the start of school, we host an in-store shoe shopping event. This helps provide well-fitted, comfortable footwear that supports the physical health and overall well-being of the children we serve. In the fall, we host a similar event to provide snow pants and winter boots to combat the harsh Michigan winters. This is an important way we can help students fully engage in their studies and outdoor activities.

Youth Financial Aid

Our commitment to supporting local kids extends beyond academics. We provide financial aid for enrichment activities to help the kids we serve to pursue their interests, whether in sports, arts, or other extracurriculars.

Mental Health

Furthermore, we partner with local mental health professionals to provide counseling for at-risk middle and high school students. A mentally healthy student body contributes to a positive and compassionate school environment, benefiting every student, teacher, and staff member in Saline.

Support Our Back-to-School Programs

No child should be left behind due to economic circumstances. Together we can foster an inclusive learning environment where all students can thrive. Whether you’re a parent, teacher, or neighbor, supporting SASS’s efforts is a testament to the belief that the success of one is the success of all. Together, we can build a stronger, more compassionate Saline for generations to come.
